American Home Shield - Unbelievable rip-off
I have spent so much time and energy with this, I am fed up. Over the past 20 years, I have paid over $15,000 to this company between the yearly contract fees plus the service fees when you actually use the warranty for a repair.
And what do I have to show for it? An old fridge that keeps springing leaks in the ice maker, resulting in a $75 fee each time.
And an old, broken-down central A/C unit from 1987 and now facing ridiculous charges for freon, multiple service fees for a unit that keeps breaking, and terrible customer service that has me waiting weeks during the hottest part of the year. I have spend countless hours on hold with customer service, been disconnected after being placed on hold on a 47 minute call this morning, and to think how much I have paid into this "warranty" over the years just makes me sick.
Reason of review: Warranty issue.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

American Home Shield is horrible. Don't bother with them.
They don't take care of stuff in a timely manner and you will be on hold for a terrible long time. I have been trying to get my air conditioner fixed for 3 months now.
In 3 months with no air, have you had anyone else come out to repair it, or are you just going to wait them out? Why would anyone DO that?
AHS can outlast the customer when it comes to prolonging system and appliance replacement. They know you will keep renewing your policy, because youโve already waited this long, and wonโt spend your own money on replacement.
To break out of the trap, cancel the plan and hire your own contractors, or accept the cash out option on the next repair. The cashout amount will reveal to you how little they pay out on each repair claim, and why there is no incentive for AHS to replace any equipment.
The contractors work for them for chicken feed, supplying cheap parts and band aids to keep the equipment running. If you want anything replaced, you have to upgrade yourself.
