American Home Shield review: Do not buy a contract for home service coverage--they have tried numerous ways to avoid fixing my problem over 7 days, bouncing service request between contractors and not deciding which one to use

- Lying by customer service reps
I pray everyday that all my appliances and my house everything is in good working condition so that I don’t have to deal with AHS I have read reviews on PSEG and they are no better their customers are just as frustrated
My guess is the system is low on refrigerant and the coil is frozen up. This results in an abundance of water overflowing the condensate drain line.
They probably discovered excessive corrosion on the copper coil, resulting in a refrigerant leak, which is an unfixable problem. The contractors for AHS are so busy that they haven’t had time to work up your report to AHS, but when they do, be prepared for bad news. At minimum, you will hear that the refrigerant will cost YOU out of pocket up to $1500, as AHS only covers $10 per pound. You will also hear that secondary damage is not covered, so the Sheetrock damage is yours to fix.
Also, water dripping through the ceiling under an air handler tends to be a recurrent problem, so don’t fix that ceiling yet. AHS will never get that to stop. Their halfarst repairs will only go so far.
You need a complete new system, outside and in the attic, but be assured they won’t be paying for it. How long do you want to have this problem go on?
- Customer service is the worst
Sadly, Refrigerators are disposable, like most appliances. Your expectations are unrealistic, that a microwave, washing machine, refrigerator, etc can be fixed, and that a home warranty paying bottom dollar can accomplish this feat in a timely manner.
Appliances have far too much plastic and electronics in them to last or be repairable. Home warranties just take your money and send you around in circles, while they hope you go away.

If there is heat in another area in the home, it is not an emergency. AHS doesn’t pay the contractors extra for expedited orders, and customers that demand expedited service are a pain.
If there was a true emergency, the homeowner would not be using a home warranty. Everyone wants to avoid paying for good service, which is a phone call away. Who wants to have the heat out in ANY portion of their home?!
All heating and air calls are emergencies! The only thing that differentiates customers is money.
