Low budget help: isn’t that what you signed up for? Did you check into the reviews before you spent 5 days on the heat?

Or better yet, did you research AHS before you bought the home warranty? It’s not too late to call in a separate company and scrap the whole thing. Or at least go down to the home improvement store or wal mart and buy some window units—they are highly effective at room cooling. There is service like you describe, but it is called RETAIL.

Retail means you buy, you pay, you decide. There are other options, you just don’t see them because you are trying to utilize a worthless product called a home warranty.

American Home Shield review - Not good customer service
I called and a repair for my Kitchenaid refrigerator. in February 2019. Sears ordered the wrong door. see Sears. I'm Sears picked up the wrong door in June and they were supposed to order a brand new door. as of September 11th I had not received a door. I called American Home Shield and was told it was not reordered. and they would reorder a new door. I called again on November 12th and no door has been ordered. the door. is broken on my refrigerator. I'm Kate Sears did order a plastic part okay that. the plastic part that Sears ordered is broken again because the door has never been fixed. okay did you order a new door. I had another Appliance repairman look at this door and the door is broken. he said it will eventually fall right off the refrigerator.

I know you don’t want to hear this from a home warranty contractor (and ALL home warranty companies are the same—Old Republic, for example, is even worse), but here goes: There is no money being paid to the repairman’s company except the service fee you paid. It is paid based upon the first trip out, not subsequent trips.

The repairman has to operate at a LOSS, doing their work for a flat $100 (while supplying the parts, too) in order to get more calls from AHS. No more money changes hands later. That’s it. Denials of claims are used by the contractor as much as possible to avoid going down the repair road, in which everyone is unhappy with too, because of the time it takes.

Better to get the unhappiness started immediately with an outright denial, than to listen to al the griping for a month, and still having to lose money. This is why ALL the contractors who work for home warranty companies have rotten reviews, and can’t make it in the retail market. They become slaves of the home warranty companies. They are abused.

Yet realtors push these plans and think they’re golden. The reason I’m explaining all this (in vain) is that the plans are not worth what is paid for them, and it’s best to hire (and not abuse) the local blue collar tradespeople, and stop using these bs home warranties. You can’t make them pay the contractors more than the flat rate (and why would they?) They punish the contractors that charge more by taking them off the list, and letting them go, where they will fail, will all the bad reviews earned from working with home warranty people. Realtors need to know this most of all.

When you exert pressure on the home warranty company, it only hurts the contractor more, not AHS, which is where the problem is: THE CONTRACTORS ARE NOT GETTING PAID.

AHS IS KEEPING ALL THE MONEY. Is that clear?

My guess is the system is low on refrigerant and the coil is frozen up. This results in an abundance of water overflowing the condensate drain line.

They probably discovered excessive corrosion on the copper coil, resulting in a refrigerant leak, which is an unfixable problem. The contractors for AHS are so busy that they haven’t had time to work up your report to AHS, but when they do, be prepared for bad news. At minimum, you will hear that the refrigerant will cost YOU out of pocket up to $1500, as AHS only covers $10 per pound. You will also hear that secondary damage is not covered, so the Sheetrock damage is yours to fix.

Also, water dripping through the ceiling under an air handler tends to be a recurrent problem, so don’t fix that ceiling yet. AHS will never get that to stop. Their halfarst repairs will only go so far.

You need a complete new system, outside and in the attic, but be assured they won’t be paying for it. How long do you want to have this problem go on?

American Home Shield review - Denied reimbursement
I was checking my checking account 3 days ago and saw a charge to AHS. I called AHS and found out I had renewed my contract in June and had been paying monthly. I forgot I had renewed and had paid $643.96 for an A/C repair on August 7. I contacted AHS and was told I will not be reimbursed because I had not gone through them. I'm 76 and memory is not too sharp anymore. Not happy and will not renew with AHS next year.
