I called to report my HVAC was broken and leaking through the ceiling to the bottom floor. After 8 days, a technician finally came out and looked at our system. Now 2 days later, I called to find out when it would be repaired. After 5 phone calls where I was...

My guess is the system is low on refrigerant and the coil is frozen up. This results in an abundance of water overflowing the condensate drain line.

They probably discovered excessive corrosion on the copper coil, resulting in a refrigerant leak, which is an unfixable problem. The contractors for AHS are so busy that they haven’t had time to work up your report to AHS, but when they do, be prepared for bad news. At minimum, you will hear that the refrigerant will cost YOU out of pocket up to $1500, as AHS only covers $10 per pound. You will also hear that secondary damage is not covered, so the Sheetrock damage is yours to fix.

Also, water dripping through the ceiling under an air handler tends to be a recurrent problem, so don’t fix that ceiling yet. AHS will never get that to stop. Their halfarst repairs will only go so far.

You need a complete new system, outside and in the attic, but be assured they won’t be paying for it. How long do you want to have this problem go on?

My A/C has been out for almost 2 weeks now. It took a week to get them to send someone out to look at the unit. It is now taking a week to order a part. And, then they will have to schedule someone to come out to fix it. We live in Savannah, GA and they don't care that...

FYI, all parts houses are closed on the weekends. Most close at 4:30pm on Friday and reopen at 8am on Monday, if there is no holiday.

They close for all major holidays—YES even 4th of July. Nobody, I mean NOBODY, carries a fan blade to fit your specific unit, except MAYBE a supply house. And weekends don’t count, as every parts house is CLOSED. You are paying for cheap repairs, not fast repairs.

You can’t have both!!!!! If you want fast, you have to hire an independent contractor, and you have to pay the parts house $75 to meet your tech to see if they have what you need, whether they have it or not. No customer is ever willing to pay the emergency fee to get the parts house to send someone from home to open the store.

And they can’t tell you if they have the right part in stock until everyone gets there. Do you really think a home warranty is going to do this?

There needs to be someone in American who can address customer's problems of getting another contract person to do the job if the one given to the client falls down on the job.
My first Claim: Called for someone to come out to see why my central air was not cooling. Got assigned to Air Design A/C . The appointment was set and the time frame. 2-10, then 4-10. The repairman showed up, at 9 pm, no courtesy call or nothing to say he was coming or...

Never call you Back, and the Techs tell you parts are on the way every day, waited one month called to check on parts and was told by other supplier of Dishwasher parts that they stop making them. Under the contract AHS is to replace or repair Unit. You call them and get so Asia people that tell you that they are order the part, but they do not make them any more! So you ask them about replacing the unit and the put you on Hold and never come back . Ask for refund and they laugh!

You won’t have a new system by NEXT summer if you use AHS. They are going to patch yours.

You are going to buy the freon.

And that is how it’s going to go on. Why do people keep doing this?

They send out crooked contractors who inflate the price and make you pay most of the cost out of your pocket.

They aren’t crooked contractors. Ahs only pays them your service fee, and then you and the contractor work it out for the rest of the money.

AHS is the crooked one. They won’t use contractors who charge over the customer’s service fee. The AHS Contractor Relations Reps determine the average price per, call per trade, and that’s all the contractors can charge AHs. Yet SOMEbody has to pay for it!!!

That leaves the contractors NO choice but to find ways to charge the customers. Sorry but the home warranty market is just a complete SCAM, and AHS could fix it if they would just PAY for what you customers of theirs NEED. Their idea of “coverage” is making the contractor cover it. Then the contractor gets blamed for everything.

Easy enough to understand? Got any suggestions for how to correct this?

I say, vote against all Home Warranties, by taking your business to a local small business tradesperson that you trust. That would correct it.

AHS dispatches the vendor with the lowest average cost per claim, regardless of customer’s choice. They only have one or two select “preferred” (by AHS, not the customers!) vendors in each area of 100 miles radius.

They aren’t into offering their customers a choice of vendors or other options. AHS is into the lowest average cost per claim. They cap the contractors at $200 for HVAC claims, including all the parts, labor, and even includes the customer’s service fee! So that means the contractor has no money to spend on your claim—there is no profit made by the contractor off of charging AHS.

The only profit comes via charging the customer for out-of-pocket, non-covered items, that are outside the warranty. It gets very sketchy, when coming up with a basis for the partial claim denials. The costs to the customer’s are always inflated, because the costs to the home warranty is deflated, minimized and capped at $200 per claim, regardless of reality. These unrealistic cost expectations placed by AHS upon the contractors results in horrible service and unappealing contractors.

Ahs won’t employ more contractors because then they would not be able to control the claim costs or hold the contractors hostage as they do.

They have their preferred contractors in fear of being fired each month due to claim costs. The Ahs computer is going to dispatch the call volume to the contractor with the lowest cost per claim, regardless how the contractor feels about it.
