Details
hard to cancel the insurance .. you call them and they keep you on hold for more than 45 minutes . One time 90 minutes . I cant wait that long . you email them and someone promise to call you back but they don't . You email them again and the same think ... they keep on promising that someone will call you to cancell but they dont. Then I get an email if I dont pay for the warrenty they will call send it for collection . I really found it too hard to work with this company . They do it this way in order for them to keep on collecting money by scaring people of collection

Agent representing their company doesn't think that work needs to be done. | American Home Shield review from Los Angeles, California

After reading most of the other reviews from Californians the first thought that popped into my head: OH *** I'M SCARED! The only things I can review at this point are: 1. The first technician that was sent to our house 2. Their website 3. Their phone customer service So first things first, the issue, my gas furnace started making a horrible noise -so much so that my wife was concerned and called a HVAC company to take a look. The technician came out and after inspecting our 1983 furnace determined that it was dangerous to operate. So we contacted AHS. They, of course sent out their own contractor who said that there was nothing wrong with our furnace other than it was old and will make some noise from time to time. We could replace the fan/motor that made the noise for about $350 -but that would not be covered under our home owner's warranty. Now that IS a surprise (read: sarcasm) that the agent representing the company that would have to payout doesn't think that the furnace needs to be replaced. Since the furnace is located directly across the hallway from my 7 year old son's room the discrepancy between "dangerous to operate" and "nothing wrong with it" called for further action from us. My son's safety comes first. We had different HVAC technicians look at it who also recommended immediate replacement. Side note: it's *** December and I'm cold! Fortunately, it has been a mild winter so far and only one night had my wife, my 10 year old, my 7 year old and me huddled together in bed. I did go and buy electric blankets for my 18 year old and 15 year old -there's only so much a queen bed can handle! My wife initially dealt with American Home Shield and she simply used the automated phone system to schedule their first service call. I however, got the pleasure of sitting on hold for 15 minutes as I simultaneously ran in circles on their website chasing broken or incorrect links while trying to schedule another service call. When I FINALLY got through to a human, on the other end of the phone, I was pleasantly surprised, Laquisha (I believe she said her name was) tried to be VERY helpful in rescheduling a senior service technician from the same "nothing wrong with it" company. I'm trying to be optimistic about the outcome while bracing myself for what likely will be the reality of dealing with American Home Shield. This review is to be continued... I'll update when this is all resolved.

They won't repair your appliance in a prompt manner. | American Home Shield review from Los Angeles, California

We had a washer/dryer breakdown in our condo. It took two days to get the service tech to arrive. He reported it was un repairable. They send for a second opinion. This one said it was repairable and would cost around $700-800. The company approved this amount. The repair tech sa1id it would take over one week to obtain the parts. How dumb is that. We were forced to buy an new unit for around $1,300.00 This is not what good service is all about. My suggestion. Save you money and pay for you own repairs. You will be ahead of the game. Trust me. Never again will I buy one of these unnecessary policies.

I have never, in my life, ever met so many *** people. Because I have a home warranty with American Home Shield, I am a victim to using this ridiculously inept "repair" company in Los Angeles called Active Appliance. They've come to my home many times and each time,...

The appliance was finally replaced after over 4 months of repairmen coming into my home, wasting my time, causing serious headaches, anxiety, etc. I have a faucet that was patched a few months ago; however, have decided that rather than pay another $60 service fee I will have someone install a new faucet; that's better for my health!

Denied repair to refridgerator. | American Home Shield review from Los Angeles, California

AHS sent a repairman to fix our 19 yr old fridge. He siad the compressor had died. He also wrote it was dirty. I cleaned it 3 to 4 months prior. They denied coverage because it was dirty. They then asked if we would like a second opinion and that they would go by this opinion. The second contractor said it was not dirty and they should cover the repair. He also took pictures to confirm it was clean. The first contractor did not. AHS said it was not left in the condition the first contractor said. this is a lie and an excuse not to cover the repair. I believe AHS trains its contractors to write statements that will make it possible for them to deny coverage.

Prices go up due to rise in costs period. Think about it, AHS is only recieving your premium payment and your service fee is just for the Tech to come out. Now with all prices being high, AHS is actually paying more than probably 4 months of your premium just for the technician to figure out what the issue is.

My only comment about AHS is, why does the costs keep going up? I have had AHS for about 10 years.

Not to many complaints except the cost of the contract goes up every year. I am on a fixed income, so it is about to become an item I can not afford.

They have the worse customer service. | American Home Shield review from Los Angeles, California

The companies they work with are not good they try to make as much as money possible. Customer service does not trust you. The impression I had from them is they do not trust thier customer but fully respect the companies they have contract with. My experince was when a company did not repair anything in my house they charge me $60 and did not take my words that they did not do anything for me. I had to pay for a service I never recevied. When I called them it took 45 minutes to talk to them and no result.

Did not return to repair the leak | American Home Shield review from Los Angeles, California

Water leak under house. Sent their rep to examine and found water under house. He advised me to call my home owner insurance company to advise them and to clean up water and call back for repair. I called Serve Pro and they were there within two hours. Worked steady to remove the water under the house and took picture of leak. I called the plumber back and they said they would come out when water was removed. Water was removed and then they said they had not emergency call from AHS. I called AHS again and they also called the plummer. Now the plumber said they cannot come out to repair as it is too wet. The plumbing company continued to argue with me and with AHS and said that do to workers comp and liability they could not repair until completely dry. Now for the dirt to be completely dry could take weeks under a house. The plumber calls us back and said that AHS advised them that they could not repair as it could be hazardous. Serve Pro also talked to plummber and advised them that is was only water and all tests proved not sign of mildew, etc. Normally AHS follows up after a request for service. It has been two days and have not heard from them. Do you think they are avoiding me. One of my properties has been covered for 15 years. This property has been covered for two. Each time they send these flaky companies they have to return at least two or three times. I for one am tired of the service from AHS in our area of Downey, CA.

I understand your frustration with AHS but I used to be a plumber. It is not only nasty to have to roll around in your fecal matter that is mixed into the mud but I have had to get shots to prevent getting diseases because of that.

There is also a high risk of electrocution for a plumber to go under there. The moisture creates a situation where the body will become a ground to earth. If there is anything wrong with the electrical system it can kill. Risk Death? For what?

$15 an hour. Dead is Dead.

Use fans to dry out the space, go under your own house and spread copious amounts of LIME to aid in drying out the space. Good Luck

AHS will not take my $41 payment unless I do an automatic deduction. | American Home Shield review from Los Angeles, California

I cannot believe the 'gall' of these financial institutions. The banks, the credit card companies and now American Home Sheild will not take my payments unless THEY deduct it from my bank account. I have been unemployed for most of 3 years - I was a $6 figure wage earner. I am trying to hold on to my home and for the last year or 2 instead of paying for my home protection plan annually ($535 I paid for about 3 years) I have been paying monthly to help manage my cash flow better. If something catastrophic happens to my home, I don't want that to be the last step to losing my home. THEY WON'T DO IT! I either have to pay annually or quarterly. If I want monthly payments they must deduct it from my bank account. They claim it would be too much paperwork. But guess what? For the last 2 months they have sent paperwork in the form of a reimbursement of the same $41 because they don't want to receive it that way any more. CRAZY!!!!! THEY refuse to work with me and I have 5 FIVE accounts with them for the last 6 years. They would rather lose my business - which they will.
