We've had American Home Shield coverage for over 15 years. While we've had satisfactory experiences in the past, we'll be cancelling.
Our built in microwave went out in Aug of 2019 after 5 months of ordering parts, multiple follow up calls (all initiated by us) we're told that it can't be repaired. We received no updates from AHS regarding status or next steps. We reached out again in early January after the holiday rush and were told they would offer us the "cost of the parts to repair the microwave" even though it can't be repaired. We could replace with a much cheaper model or take a cash out to apply towards the comparable appliance.
If we go that route, AHS will not install or cover delivery. In reviewing our contract it clearly states:
APPLIANCE NOTE: AHS will pay up to three thousand dollars ($3,000) per Covered Item malfunction for access, diagnosis, and
repair/replacement of any covered Appliance
I interpreted this as stated.
When I questioned this, I was pointed to the statement at the bottom of the contract that negates the statement above with: AHS has the sole right to determine whether a covered system or appliance will be repaired or replaced.
I'm glad we discovered their current business practice on our microwave vs our Viking range.
Buyer beware! Cost/benefit not working out.
