American Home Shield - Leaking toilet not fixed for over 4 months!!

I had a leaking toilet that I complained about on May 13,2019. After multiple visits by the contractor assigned, the problem has still not been fixed on October 7, 2019. I have lost money in rent, as well paying for water bills. Have talked and complained to AHS several times. Atrocious customer service.

The AHS plumbers (and other tradespeople) are under contract with AHS to keep the costs of your service capped at the service call fee, and no more. The incentive for the AHS plumber is to use the contract loopholes and find a way to deny your claims.

If there is no way for denial to happen, then the AHS plumber agrees to do the work and provide the materials for free, without billing AHS, because that is what AHS demands of their contractors. In exchange for agreeing to these terms, AHS routes all their service requests to this contractor. This AHS “preferred contractor” is slow because of the extremely high volume of work orders he gets from AHS, where each customer pays the same low service fee. Emergency requests do not get special treatment, because the amount of money is the same from each work order, regardless of priority.

This is why you can’t choose your own plumber, and why the warranty service is so slow. It also explains why so many claims are denied, and why repairs are so minimally performed by home warranty service providers.

American Home Shield Warranty
Reason of review
Slowness to reimburse and slowness of repair man arriving
Preferred solution
Send the reimbursement check for the first plumbing visit, as promised, and allow customers to get their own contractors who can fix problems in a timely manner and the just reimburse them. No need to have customers dispatch through AHS.

Home warranties are not designed for speed. Fast and cheap do not go hand in hand.

There’s fast, and there’s cheap. Why do people expect holiday weekend service at all, from a home warranty? That’s when you step up and call a retail provider who agrees to accept calls this weekend. Not all businesses work weekends and holidays—especially for the extremely low flat-rate a home warranty pays.

There are NO parts houses open until Tuesday anyway. Monday is Labor Day. A holiday.

Are you working Monday? For free?

A home warranty is only intended to provide the most basic of services, like a diagnosis and simple repair. The contractors are quite capable, but are held to such stringent cost controls by their “contractor relations rep” at AHS that their hands are tied.

If the contractor doesn’t find a way to keep the average claim cost down below $200 per claim, the contractor has to eat the cost himself or will be replaced by another contractor. AHS is serious about one thing: cost control. The vendors have to accommodate the customers while meeting these cost objectives or the vendors will be replaced. The vendors face constant harassment and threats from their contractor relations representatives at AHS.

Costs have ridiculously low targets, and the claims and dispatch tickets are averaged; any vendor exceeding the average cost per claim target will be fired. Since the only way for the vendors to make a living is through high call volume coming from AHS, they are dependent upon the corrupt process of claim denials and inflation of non-covered costs. The AHS vendors have zero business generation of their own, or they would not be servicing AHS customers, where they are abused on both ends.

It doesn’t matter in which city, state, or region you are located; nor does it matter which system or appliance in your home has failed, nor which trade will be used for service. Home warranties are NOT going to treat you like a paying customer, because you are NOT.
