Our daughter called almost 2 weeks ago here in Visalia, Ca with over 100 degree heat with two kids at home and you won't believe what she is going through. She bought an evaporated cooler that has nt helped and has had her family has had to spend nights at friends...They have given her different responses or show up and say they can't do anything and will send someone that will fix and that someone shows up and they can't do anything either and then to day some guy shows up in an unmarked vehicle and wants cash or her debit card number and gets mad and leaves when she doesn't feel comfortable giving it to him and she has reached an emotional limit.....

Reason of review: Bad quality.

American Home Shield Cons: Disastrious.

As a contractor who has worked for AHS for years, let me tell you her contractorโ€™s hands are tied as much as your daughterโ€™s are. First: the private vehicleโ€”we have to conceal our identity and use fake names and bogus addresses because of the AHS customers who are so pissed.

The contractors take the brunt of the abuse, mainly because they are local, and you canโ€™t get to AHS. AHS probably has security, but we do not. People are CRAZY, but I digress. Secondly, the requirement of payment is also understandable: nobody wants to pay the contractor, thinking that their suffering should excuse them from payment of the service fee or the non-covered items.

Customers also have the misconception that everything can just be billed to AHS in the event the customer refuses to pay. That could not be further from the truth. AHS contractorโ€™s only get paid a minimal fee (around $200) including the costs of parts and labor, from AHS, regardless of services performed, and they have to โ€œwrite offโ€ or โ€œabsorbโ€ the rest. Meaning they lose money on most of the AHS calls, unless the customer pays a portion of it in the form of non-covered items.

If the customer refuses to pay, or stops payment, the contractor has no recourse. AHS will not be harmed, just the local mechanic who is desperate for work that nobody wants to pay for. He is spending his own money for licensing, insurance, parts, labor, taxes, vehicles, gas, and other overhead expenses, to service a crooked insurance company and their stingy, greedy, or cheapskate customers who think Air conditioning is a right, not a privilege. If they received fast service from a reputable contractor, they would not like the price.

There is a price for immediate service, and after hours service, but AHS doesnโ€™t pay for that. They only pay a minimal for high volume calls, like having universal healthcare.
