American Home Shield makes repairs cost more

AHS was going to have to replace a blown A/C compressor at my house. The tech inspected it, agreed it had just failed under normal operation, and left. An hour later, we get a call from a rude AHS rep telling us that the repair was denied due to a couple of dented fins on the compressor. This is a large unit with close to 40 square feet of heat exchanger. When the rep contradicted himself about the diagnoses a minute into the call, he cursed and hung up on us. This company seems to make money on the idea that when something big breaks, you need it repaired. They'll string you along with "we'll get back to you tomorrow", until you get tired of having no heat in the winter, and your pipes burst, or no AC in the summer, or your stove catches fire. This Realtor will never use ASH again.

I ordered an upgraded warranty package for my client for over $400.00.Three weeks after she moved in she needed plumbing lines cleared of a blockage so she could use her showers and toilets....They sent a plumber and said they would not cover her repairs, charged her the service fee, and gave her an estimate to replace all the plumbing for over $2,500.00. I recieved the worst costumer service and communication from their company I have ever encountered. I will never refer their services to another client. Do not use American Home Sheild. They are a rip-off.

American Home Shield Costs Customers More In The Long Run

In December of 2007 I purchased a home in Henderson, Nevada, and paid an additional $600.00 for the home warranty by American Home Shield. I purchased the so called "INSURANCE" because I was buying an older home. Upon going through the house, I noticed water damage: the roof had leaked during a recent rain, something I did not know was going to happen. I called the realtor I went through to buy the house, and asked about how to file a claim as I had not received anything from American Home Shield. She was shocked to learn they had not sent anything in line of policy information. So she contacted them to have them contact me. No one contacted me. Under my policy, the roof, the electrical, heating, air conditioner, water heater, all major appliances are covered as well as all plumbing issues are covered, or so I thought. I never heard anything nor did I receive anything, as a result I shelled out $7500.00 to have the roof replaced, a roof that is covered under my policy. So I think all is well and I go to move a few things in and stay there over night. The outlet in the bathroom was hot.. turns out the electrical/wiring needed to be redone. So once again I called to get the information on the policy, again nothing, so there goes $2500.00 out of my pocket to fix the electrical issues. All this was in January of 2008. Then the locks jammed. A third call goes to try to get policy and contract information. Once again nothing, so that was yet more money, $700.00 to fix all the locks on house. THEN a plumbing issue came up, I FINALLY got a hold of someone from the American Home Shield. What happened was when I was doing a small load of laundry my mother went to use the bathroom and water backed up into the toilets, bath tubs, and in the laundry room, so I am telling the gal this, and I tell her, I am still in California, being unable to move into the home due to all of these issues and would not be in town until a few days later, and this is the beginning of May! I also inform her that at this time I had STILL not received any sort of policy related information. She sent the plumber out that day, and I received a nasty message on my voice mail from him asking why the *** did I call for service if I had no plan to be present. I called back and tried to explain that the phone operator from American Home Shield knew that I was not there and I apologized for him being sent out like that. He snapped at me that he would have the receptionist call me back on Monday to schedule an appointment. The lady did call Monday, and was very rude, so I just scheduled for the Thursday coming up. I get to Henderson on Wednesday evening, and wake up early Thursday morning, even though the "TECHNICIAN" was not going to be there until noon. Noon rolls around, no show... so I call around 12:30 and they call the technician and he claims he called my cell phone to say he was running late but in truth, he never called because I used my cell phone to call them. SO I got mad and said why didn't he leave a message, this is unprofessional on his part. So them I am told he is on his way and he will show in 5-10 minutes. 45 minutes go by, again nothing, so by this time I am furious and I call the plumbing company to cancel the appointment because my time may not be precious to them, but it is to me. So I am outside having a smoke when I call, and they claim the guy was at the end of the street when I called. SO I just blew up. I said really, my house IS at the end of the street and considering I was outdoors when I called and did not see him. I was basically called a liar by the company and they hung up on me. So I called American Home Shield and basically told them that so far this policy has not paid for itself and that I refuse to deal with a company that treats their clients with so much disrespect. To this day, the middle of June, the plumbing issue has not been fixed, yet I am being charged a $50.00 service fee when their guy did not even show up! And I have been told that unless I PAY the fee, additional fees will be added. Here it is June, and I am just now moving into a home I purchased in December of 2007, and because of American Home Shields failure to provide policy information, I am out over $10,000.00 on repairs that are covered under the policy I purchased. Look into your options, there are other companies out there that provide the same coverage's for sometimes less money and they are considerably more reliable.

IT Industry Corp lied about coming to my home

On approx 5/5/08 AHS referred It Industry Corp. to service my spa equipment. When tech Tony, called to set up an appointment I asked if he was familiar with my type of spa system, he said no and never showed up. He claimed that he came to my home and I would not let him in to check the system. That assertion is totally false and without merit. AHS was informed about the incident and assured me that I would be credited by the $50.00 service fee. I was initially given credit but then AHS decided to reinstate the service fee. If that were the case why would AHS authorized service on my refrigerator on 5/21/08 if there was an out standing balance. To this date the balance is outstanding and service suspended.

American Home Shield has the worst management

I think it's cheaper to buy your own parts and labor for whatever needing repair than going through this insurance. They have the worst management team and the worst contract service providers. At the end, most things end up not within the contracted service realm that you simply pay the service fee for the contractor to come to your home to give you the highest possible quote in the industry. If you are lucky that the particular item is covered, you have to wait for the delivery one day and then wait for the installation or repair on another day. (They don't allow you to schedule the repair before you physically have the parts in your hands). Who in America stays home nowadays? It's too costly to take day off at work to wait for a delivery and they are very rigid with the delivery schedule(has to be weekdays) and they don't allow delivery to other than your home address.

AHS home insurance ripp off company

I live in Texas and my AC went out , i called AHS to request service it was on a friday no one called back from the service company till after business hours and was told they could not service me for another 4 days i said i can't wait in this heat i have to call AHS and have them fined some one else so i called AHS and was told they could not change service provider and have to wait 4 days and if by then could not get resolved they will change provider so i said and have to wait another week they said yes so the money you spend on hotel room and dining out is more than what you save that's not counting the days off you have to take and wait for some *** head to call you and schedule an apointment and who knows if it's coverd or not and what they may make up to deny your claim , bottom line you're dealing with the lowest of the low , save your money and repair things on your own it's cheaper and faster .

Search American Home Shield is a crock and that'll give you how they treated me. We seriously need to get together somehow and do a class action suit against them!

Shaddy contractor was sent out, won't refund the full amount I paid for the warranty even though I cancelled before the 30 days citing incurring charges, won't refund the amount I had to pay for a window unit (had to buy a window unit cause my family and I was sitting in 90 degree heat in our house for 8 days) and won't refund the money I paid to my own independent contractor that fixed the problem in 3 hours versus their 16 days to make a decision on my claim. American Home Shield is a crock!

I called American Homes Sheild to have my Air conditions repair. I was told since I did not have maintance done on my air condition my claim was denies. I need to have another company to come and clean coil on my system. So, I had to pay American Shield $55.00 and other compay $389. Oh, I forgot tell you this the company that came out knew the the claim was going to be deined, so the tech called his boss and to get him to sale me a new unit. The unit I was is only 14 years old, they me that was out of date. So, you know some of the tech work on commission, when they sale you a new unit. The Lady in Fort Washington, MD

I have had AHS for about 3 to 4 years. They were good until about April of this year.

I pay $45 a month. They have fixed my washing machine once and my dryer a couple of times. No major parts broken. When my refrigerator broke, they order the part twice and it was the wrong part so after about 4 weeks they gave me a brand new refrigerator.

so i had no complaints. when my AC broke in April of 2009 i called them and they sent out Harkins Air & Refrigeration. they went into the attic and said he would have to go and take information back the office. I asked him to check the outside unit because the neighbor had notice that the fan wasn't blowing; something like that.

[The neighbor fixes Air conditioners and knew their was a problem. He checked the outside unit and it needed a motor. They called me back and said that because the ducts in the attic was not tied up correctly they could not fix anything until the problem in the attic was corrected. I ask them to fix the outside unit and i would get someone to fix the ducts in attic that has been like that for 15 years.

they called back and said they couldn't fix the outside unit because of the problem in the attic. I called Harkins to get an estimate for the duct reparis and they never called me back. i was without air for 2 days going back and forth with them. The next morning i called Calvin's maintenace they came out at 8:30 a.m.

put a new motor in and completed the job by 10:30 am. The motor was under warranty so i had to pay $200 for labor. I wasn't going to complaint since we got a new refrigerator. But My In-Laws, both in their 80's; temp 90 to 100 degrees; just got the warranty about 6 months ago; AC went out Monday 7/12/2010 and on 7/14/2010 she had to call them to see what they was going do and they told her because it hadn't been cleaned in several years was the reason it had broken.

She had to call Baton Rouge AC and they came out that Thursday with the part and fix the AC by 1:00 p.m. It was also under warranty. we both had to pay our $60 withstand these high temps and way 3 days before getting AC fixed.

To me a Scam is going on and Harkins AC in Baton Rouge is part of the scam. BEWARE!

American Homeshield sent a plumber out several times to fix a leak on my hot water pipe under the house. The plumber used “duck tape” to repair the pipe.

Needless to say, the duck tape didn’t fix the leak. However, Mostly all of our walls cracked and our floors buckled causing costly damages to our home. Our children were sick from mold and my family had to go without hot water in very cold weather. We are suing American Homeshield and the plumber for the damages to our home, health, and living conditions.

While American Homeshield tries their best to get out of being responsible for the damages, they also sent us a letter saying that they are not renewing our contract. Oouuuch! Talk about insult to injury. If you are or used to be a customer or contractor I will be very grateful if I can get a statement from you sent to my email bpsashington@***.net.

I am especially interested in hearing from any contactors and former American Homeshield employees that can vouch for American Homeshield’s encouragement to make cheap repairs that only puts a temporary band-aid on the problem and their deceptiveness with denying claims that should be covered. I am not looking for anyone to testify in court, only a true statement. I will also be willing to give my statement to anyone who needs it.

Have been with AHS since 2005 and never abused service. My A/C went out last year and a $500.00 part was not covered. Did not have money at the time and requested time to pay for it. AHS said ok for when I was ready. Stayed all summer w/out A/C. Have money now, AHS...

Lied about repairing AC

American Home Shield LIES. My AC compressor blew up on Sunday. The unit is 16 years old - my husband is disabled and undergoing radiation now - we live in Florida and it's hot and humid. They sent a man on Mon. - he had 48 hours to put in just a new motor - not a whole new compressor. We were dying of the heat - knew we needed a whole new complete unit - they refused. We had the serviceman come back and we had to pay the entire amount($2600.00) - but he had us cool on Tuesday. AHS is terrible - cancel them if you can

WOW they did the same they ripped out half of my air condinter and then said. Opps cant fix it till you pay us 500.

for part. single parent 3 kids!And the kicker to the story is, it was working but barely cooling! so instead of dealing with barley cooling I went to no air at all in the end of July in florida.

And this is just one story that has to do with the AC! :cry

AHS is a fraudulent company and they will ripp you off if you think they will help you.

I had to pay to get my a/c fixed $2700 simply because they refused to do it because of the access to the attic. So, I also paid them for over 3 years, monthly payments, just to get robbed from them.

So they just decided to cash me out for $600 when the complete job coswt was $2700......So if you are their customer, believe me! You will get ripped off when the time to pay for costly repairs comes...get out and just save your money and the trouble if you are with AHS.

American home shield pr plumming

4/16/08 I report a non working hot water recirculating pump.ASH subcontracts pr plumming to send a plummer and inspect the pump.. after his inspection he calls ASH and reports that the punp has been impacted and the case is cracked .. wich resulted is the failier of the pump. Keep in mind the plummer did not even open the pump to check and see if it is acually working.. and because of his so called educated and certified guess ASH decided to deny the claim. and on top of that wants me to pay the unprofessional plummer for his services... Beware.. having AHS does not gurantee that they will take care of any failing parts instead they will find any reason to deny a claim... After several unsuccessful conversations with several ASH rep's including supervisors.. i was no where.. still no hot water through out the house .. I went to the local plumming distributor and bought a new pump for 275.00 plus 45.00 in new fittings.. and about a couple of hours of my time.. walla its done .. 2 weeks later i get a bill from ASH to pay for that plummers inacurrate findings about my old pump... so naturally i was pissed... so here is what i did. Since i installed the new pump i was able to figure out how this little thing works... i reached for my old pump and cleaned all the calcium deposts inside and gess what it works.. no problem... now i got grounds to call AHS back and tell them what an *** the plummer was... but still they insisted I pay for the plummers services... what a business ... !!!!!

Here is some tips: call back and ask to be connected to your local AHS rep. They can help you out, offer personal service and get/clarify questions and answers! If cust service cant, call a realty comp and ask them who the rep is.

And.... you can request a 2nd opinion!

Also, go online and read the contract! Like all other warranties, see what is and isnt covered. I have WONDERFUL experiences with AHS and WOULD NOT use anything else!

If It Still Works At All, Don't Fix It At All

That's the motto of American Home Shield (AHS). If you have a covered unit that is showing definite signs that it is just about to fail but it is still working when an AHS "service" representative stops by,you can forget having it fixed even if it is a simple and cheap repair. You have to wait until it's undeniably dead and buried and then you will likely have to wait several more days for another "service" representative to go by your house. Then you might have to wait 2 weeks for a part to come in and be installed. Or worse yet, the "service" representative will tell you the item failed due to some trumped up "lack of proper maintenance" issue and thus you are not covered. Our washer now makes a loud rattling noise when filling. A 3 year old could tell there's a problem. An AHS "service" representative came by and said the noise is because our house water pressure is low. I told him there has been zippo change in the water pressure but the noise just started and requested that he explain this mystery. I even offered to check the water pressure (I have a gauge) to see if it was in the normal range. He was impressed with my resourcefulness, but still refused to repair the washer. I'm 90% sure it is the water control valve which is relatively cheap and is not a big job to replace. But nooooooo. I'll have to wait until there's absolutely no water at all going into the washer and then if I'm lucky I get to pay another $55 "service" charge to get the part replaced. There is some value in an AHS contract but a hefty dose of aggravation will be included.

As a former contractor with AHS, I will tell you the pressure is on to do the repairs as cheap as possible. After working with them for 4 years, I finally drew the line and refuses to do below standard work. I was told by AHS I would not be used as their contractor any longer.

My advice to the consumer is to put your AHS policy money in the bank and pay a GOOD repair person when needed. You will pay less and get better service.

This company is absolutely ridiculous. They are another one of those companies that will lure you in with promises and then find every loophole they can to avoid servicing you once you have paid your dues. I paid my first year of owning this house and called them to fix my jacuzzi. They came up with some ridiculous excuse and to this day it is still broken. Four hundred dollars unused and down the drain. I still decided to pay for them again the second year of owning the house and I called them to fix my washing machine. The concluded that something must have come off my clothing....like a piece of string...and wrapped itself around the pump or caused a malfunction in the pump. They sat there and told me in my face that if the pump was broken they would fix or replace it. But since it will still work ( all it needs is repair) they will not touch it.

They told me i would have to pay the contractor myself to repair it....costing hundreds of dollars.

They make their money by refusing to pay contractors for service. They are criminals.

A complete waste of 800$ in the last two years. They will find any excuse not to service you once they suck you in. STAY AWAY~~!!!!!!

AHS is ripping off consumers

We call AHS March 6, 2008 for an emergency repair in our electrical panel breakers. We were without running water and air conditioning. The service call never came that day and they gave us a schedule 4 days later. We told we can't wait because we have a 11 years old kid who can be 3 days without water ( we have a water pump and no connected co city water). They advice us to find any electrical handyman in the area and they will pay that bill. We did it in March 7 ( one day after calling AHS) and when calling canceling the schedule and asking for instructions for the reimbursement they told me we need to ask first for authorization first and never pay that $140 no matter we gave information and we have the bill to probe it. 4 days after that , they sent anyway one electrician in March 11, and we told that person we already canceled that job and he leave, noting that he didn't do any repairs because all was fixed..And now on top of not paying us the $140 for the emergency repair they are charging us also $55 extras for that handyman visit who came here 3 days after we cancel the job and he didn't do nothing because all was already fixed. This is abusive and is a real scam. Now we need a service from AHS again and we need to pay that $55 fee in order to get a service and the contract reinstated. We are asking to clarify this matter because we can't pay for a cancelled job that never was done and we call 4 days before o cancel. AHS took our money and gave us nothing but grief. Dump them and fix it yourself.

you'll be better off. I have been turned down twice for service. They would not fix my refrigerator a couple of years ago and today I was turned away for service for my central air conditioning 2010.

I will never use them again. Believe me when I say they are a rip off.

American Homeshield sent a plumber out several times to fix a leak on my hot water pipe under the house. The plumber used “duck tape” to repair the pipe.

Needless to say, the duck tape didn’t fix the leak. However, Mostly all of our walls cracked and our floors buckled causing costly damages to our home. Our children were sick from mold and my family had to go without hot water in very cold weather. We are suing American Homeshield and the plumber for the damages to our home, health, and living conditions.

While American Homeshield tries their best to get out of being responsible for the damages, they also sent us a letter saying that they are not renewing our contract. Oouuuch! Talk about insult to injury. If you are or used to be a customer or contractor I will be very grateful if I can get a statement from you sent to my email bpsashington@***.net.

I am especially interested in hearing from any contactors and former American Homeshield employees that can vouch for American Homeshield’s encouragement to make cheap repairs that only puts a temporary band-aid on the problem and their deceptiveness with denying claims that should be covered. Customers that share horror stories like mine and ended up with damage to their homes, I’d love to hear from you as well.

I am not looking for anyone to testify in court, only a true statement. I will also be willing to give my statement to anyone who needs it.

AHS has a class action suit pending. Will be heard in San Diego in April.

I hope this company goes under....they take our money and give us nothing but grief.

Here are some tips: call back and ask to be connected to your local AHS rep. They can help you out, offer personal service and get/clarify questions and answers! If cust service cant, call a realty comp and ask them who the rep is.

AND... ask for a 2nd OPINION!

Also, go online and read the contract! Like all other warranties, see what is and isnt covered. I have WONDERFUL experiences with AHS and WOULD NOT use anything else!

American Home Shield is a Scam

AHS is a scam. They make their money by being sure to avoid your expenses. (e.g. an insurance company). To work with a company that lacks accountability and is so comfortable with false advertising of poor services astounds me. I was cordially assured that their company not only was not responsible for the damage that their contractor caused to my home. Not only were they not responsible, but did not even want to see the images of the damage he caused. They informed me that he did not follow "procedures' on their end by "calling in a diagnosis" befor repairs, prior to repairing. But again, that is of no concern of theirs. They were not interested that now I face 1000's of $'s of repair because the damages their contractor caused, "work" ordered by them, as they would not allow me to use my known, trusted and quality plumber.Their guarantee is false. Beyond that, their concern for "the customer's satisfaction" and mission of "protecting their home" is smoke and mirrors. They are readily content with faulty and destructive contractors and peacefully lack accountability for the services they provide. DON'T BE FOOLED.

American Home Shield, (a/k/a A.H.S.) is one giant corporate greedy scam. The root-cause of their problems is that they are owned by ServiceMaster.

This is the same company that also owns TruGreen LawnCare and Terminix Pest Control. All of these companys have a horrible history of scamming people.
