Everyone; please be advised that David Crawford is no longer the CEO of American Home Shield. Also keep in mind that AHS is only a subsidary of ServicMaster.

The CEO of AHS reports directly to the CEO of ServiceMaster.

With this mind you can call the ServiceMaster Corporate Headquarters at 901-766-**** or 901-597-****. You can also contact ServiceMaster's 24-hour Ethics Hotline at 1-80*-***-****.

Unsatisfactory Rating

I opened a work order for repair of my central air unit 7/10 and to date 8/18/10, my unit still has not been repaired. Numerous technicians have been by to LOOK at it but no one can fix it. When I complained, I was given the run around for 2 weeks. It started at Customer Service, then to Escalation Dept from there to Research Dept. I was told Research will help me and it takes 48 hrs for them to get the Order. THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT RIDICULOUS! I have not lived in my house since July and I am frustrated. Evidentally, AHS do not have competent, honest and dependable technicians. I have friends and relatives who are members and they have had the same problems. As soon as my contract ends, I plan to enroll with another company. In closing, I WOULD NOT recommend anyone to AHS for home warranty protection.

Actually looking for loophole to not cover repair!

We purchased our first home in April and our realtor provided one year of American Home Shield Home Warranty. He opted for the "plus" package, I believe because the air conditioning units would be covered as well. Well, last week our dishwasher started leaving a crazy thick residue on everything on the bottom rack and it wasn't draining properly. So we used the online tool to request a service check on the dishwasher. We received a prompt phone call and had someone there within 2 hours of our filing a request. The serviceman arrives, actually asks us to leave him alone and within 15 minutes tells us that the dishwasher is draining fine, just a little slowly and that it needs a new pump. Fast forward two days and AHS calls and leaves a message that the repair will not be covered because we abused the dishwasher by putting food in it so they won't repair. We didn't put food in, but if that is the way they are going to play, ok. So we pull the manual for the dishwasher which describes in detail the system installed in the dishwasher for dealing with food particles, naming items like fruit seeds, egg shells and other things. So we call AHS to tell them that if they are stating misuse due to food items being in the dishwasher, Whirlpool states that the appliance is meant to have food in it. Three hours on the phone, they cut us off because they are closing and finally tell us that if the repair guy will change his statement they will reconsider. So, we have to call the repair guy who is PISSED that we are calling him and tells us that if AHS wants to say that they will call him. Still unresolved. At this point, I want my $60 fee back and I'll just never call them again. What a waste!!!

American Home Shield appliance insurance

When I bought my home on 3 June 2009 my realtor required the seller purchase insurance for the appliances and mechanical systems. In March the compact dishwasher no longer worked. I paid $60 for a repairman to attempt repair. He determined parts were no longer available. I waited while AHS also determined parts were not available. The first replacement machine offered was standard size and would not fit in the opening. When I called AHS and explained the problem I was told AHS was only obligated to replace with a standard machine and was offered a small cash settlement which I could use to purchase an appropriate dishwasher. After I reviewed the policy I called AHS again to explain AHS was obligated to replace the machine with one of similar capacity. Several days later AHS agreed to replace the broken dishwasher with another compact dishwasher I spoke with an AHS representative about ordering and installing the new machine. I was told it would take 5 to 8 days to deliver since they did not purchase locally. I told the representative that I was leaving town and not to proceed with the order unless the work would be completed before then. However, the order was placed. Now AHS insists I pay a $50 restocking charge before ordering the replacement dishwasher. AHS claims no responsibility on the basis that their procedures were followed. However, AHS first ordered an inappropriate machine. Second, AHS told me they would replace my compact machine only with a standard machine, and since such a machine would not fit the opening offered a partial cash settlement. Only after I contacted AHS about the terms of the policy, and only after further delay, did AHS agree to replace my broken dishwasher with one of similar capacity. AHS staff demonstrated they are capable of making mistakes in judgment and in fact. AHS only needs to admit they made another mistake.

Another Dissatisfied AHS Customer

Whatever happened to customer service? I dealt with a lot of companies and made hundreds of service calls, but never, ever have I met such rude and arrogant telephone representatives in my life. And their supervisors who called us back are just as ignorant. Apparently thier reps think we are all ***. I completed a customer survey after my initial service call and explained how poorly we were treated and spoken to. Not once did the company call back to see what our problem was and how they could resolve it. After my one and only service call I decided to cancel my contract. Their response was "okay". They didn't even ask if they could try and resolve the matter. Terrible customer service!!!

I tried to make a valid on some plumbing repairs that were hidden in the wall. They refused to pay for the claim because they said it was improperly installed and they don't pay for that.

How was I supposed to know that it was improperly installed hidden inside a wall ?

That's why I bought the policy to cover hidden damages. I canceled the policy and will never buy one from American Home Shield !

AHS Uses Quack Contractors

Please beware of some of the contractors that American Home Shield provides. Little did I know that my a/c would break down a few weeks after entering into a contract with them. AHS sent out one of their so called "qualified" service contractors who didn't even come inside my home to check for reasons why the unit was not working properly. BTW-they did come inside to collect the service fee. After they wouldn't fix it, I insisted on getting a second opinion which proved that these guys were quacks and not at all "knowledgeable". Please beware!

I rent my home to a military family... In July which is one of the hottest times of the year here in Columbia, SC.

My tenants called me stating the air condition unit was out. I called American Home Shield (AHS). They said it would take a few days to come out. That wouldn't work it's over 100 degrees and I have a infant and a lady that is pregnant in the home.

The said that's all they could do. So I called Spring Valley and they came out the same day and replaced the motor for $488 plus service call. A few days later the tenants called and told me the AC was making noise... I stated I'll call the AHS company and see what they can do.

This time they sent out a technician who replaced the fan blade and left. Everything was working when he left. That next thing I know I get a call again saying the AC was making noise and the top of the AC unit has *** in it. I called the AHS again, and they send the technician back out, same person.

He took the motor and the blade out and said he will have to order the parts and that it would take a month before he can fix it. This was unacceptable and I again called AHS. They said they would talk to the technician, it was a week before any from there contacted us. The came me the number to the technician's office.

I called there and they knew nothing as far as information, they said they will have the technician call me. I called AHS again and told them I have to get AC in that house, so I called another company to go out. The new Technician said the motor was gone and the top was missing. That was when I realized that the AHS technician had taking the motor, fan blade and top with him.

I was never told he was doing that. I had to pay the new technician $512 for a motor blade and top. Now I have contacted AHS again, explained to them what has taken place. I was told to send in the documents for review and they would give me a refund.

During this entire time with each and every call, their customer service department was very rude and nasty. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they would say they didn't have a supervisor, or the supervisor wasn't at work that day. Always another excuse after another. Finally a very nice lady told us that the technician hadn't reported to them as per the policy.

He was suppose to have 24 hrs. to inform them and up to that day he hadn't reported. She told me to fax in the documents and she would take care of the reimbursement. Today is Oct 5th, 2015.

Just got off the phone with another poor customer service individual and she stated she wasn't going to pay for the motor or the top, only the fan. When asked why not, she stated because she said so. She stated she will call the technician and have him bring the motor fan and top back. Lets see, he took it in July, this is Oct.

Why is it taking this long for them to get my motor back when I told him to bring it back in July, and in Aug. Now they're not going to pay me for getting something fix that I pay them to fix. This place is a rip off and so it the technician they sent out.

Stay away for this people. STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!!!

Is there an attorney out here who can help?

We submitted our first complaint on our home warranty July 12, 2010 for AC repair. Today, we still have no service and have lost work days waiting on some yahoo to show up, never does. We have had record temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and it is absolutely miserable. After reading all of the complaints here online about how AHS, thought maybe we need a class action suit filed against them? Any attorney posting or reading this may want to post a way for us to contact you. Believe me, I am no fan of attorneys or lawsuits, but someone needs to get the attention of this company. AHS is a scam. Something needs to be done. I also suggest people notify their real estate agents about AHS. Most REAs are promoting this product what $UCK$!!!

Going through the same problem. Mine situation started June 2nd.

After dealing with *** poor service providers they finally refused to fix or replace the heat pump due to miss use.

I intend to take them to court myself. However I understand there is a class action suit against them already that is in appeals court. I don't know if we stand a chance.

AMERICAN HOME SHEILD WORST SERVICE EVER

Contract No. 08712**** I had placed a service request for garbage disposal on 07/14/2010 and then a technician comes from some Rescue Rooter company to check it he comes in looks at it tries to run it and then as it was not working he told me that he can fix it as it's just jammed but in a couple of minutes when he looks inside he says since how long u didn't use i said we were out of country for 2 months and before that it went bad i did put up a request back in MAy but nobody turned up and so we decided to take it out and check it and since then it's lying out disconnected. He goes back to his van to speak to someone and comes back after half an hour and tells me that i'll receive a call from AHS ,and nobody calls back. After some time he makes me talk to a lady from AHS on his phone who tells me that as the Garbage disposal is not connected they will not cover it then i ask her if i connect it right away what happens( bcoz we didn't unscrew anything we just twist the clip and take it out) she said then it's fine.I put it back and it is properly connected the technician checks it and tells the AHS lady that yes now it is properly connected What do you want me to do? He goes out and continue talking and then hangs up and comes back and tells me that it's denied because it's not properly installed.THIS IS SICK AND RIDICULOUS NOONE WILL EVER WANT A HOME WARRANTY WHICH TAKES 3 DAYS TO SEND SOMEONE TO GET WORKORDER COMPLETED AND AFTER 3 DAYS TELLS THE CUSTOMER THAT THEY R NOT GONNA DO IT AND STILL COLLECT THE "SERVICE FEE" EVEN IF THERE"S NO SERVICE.WE HAVE SO MANY FRIENDS WITH HOME WARRANTY AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE SEE THIS.MY CONTACT EXPIRES TOMMOROW AND I DECIDED TO RENEW IT BUT ON MY FIRST SERVICE EXPERIENCE I WILL NEVER EVEN RECOMMEND AHS TO ANYONE.AND THERE"S IS ONE MORE SUGGESTION CHANGE THE "SERVICE FEE" to "VISIT FEE" because you collect the fee irrespective of whether u provide any service.

Mad as h$ll!

i wish i had seen this website years ago, maybe it would have saved me a lot of money. american home shield is a scam! i currently have a leaky hot water heater in my basement, which is filled with china, electronics, clothes, papers, etc. and any day now my heater could burst leaving me with a consiberable amount of home and property damage. in the meantime, american home shield is hiding behind some new laws, where they want me to come up with about $700.00 to payment their contractor to replace my existing heater. the heater itself is about $500.00 dollars, which doesn't make sense to me. so, i've had to take the lesser of the two evils and take the cash out. which still leaves me to deal with the problem alone, i.e., find my own contactor to install the heater and take time off my precious job to handle all of this, and i'm a woman alone and don't have the foggest idea as to what i'm dealing with. that's why i paid AMS for over 8 years to not to have to deal with this at all. my so done! my next stop is the better business bureau and the consumer protection agency....something has to be done about the way they conduct their business.

contractors have to charge extra's because AMH does not pay them squat to start with. Most decent legit companies will not do work for home warranty companies, because the proper wages are not paid

#166169

I disagree. they did the same to me.

I used my own contractor and had a new one installed for 600 dollars. This included the new heater and all upgrades.

Homeshield is a scam. They only send Russian contractors who are shady.

#165258

The contractors usually tack on a lot of "code upgrades" and fees for obtaining city or state permits. One charge is for disposal of your old water heater.

They won't let you handle that yourself normally.

That's how the contractors make their money. American Home Shield often has nothing to do with these charges.

Sir,

Im in nashville, similar boat, only with the heat and air system. I recommend you file a complaint with the state attorney general - BBB is just a hangout, has no legal repercussions. The AG does!

If you are disgusted with AHS's business tactics, customer relations AND DENIAL OF TRUE, VALID CLAIMS (ie: Breach of Contract)....

Here's some info:

If you're seeking CEO David Crawford's voicemail - here's how.

Dial 1-86*-***-**** as stated above. When the phone system says "Thank you for calling American Home Shield.... please enter your Representative's Extension" -

DO THE FOLLOWING:

Enter Ext. # 1000

The Greeting will then say: "Welcome to Avia Messaging, please enter the mailbox # of the person you are calling.... IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE MAILBOX NUMBER, PRESS STAR (*) TO SPELL THE NAME"....

After that sentence, IMMEDIATELY PRESS STAR (*) - then spell David Crawford's LAST NAME:

just input, "CRAW".... you will then be taken to: DAVE CRAWFORD'S VOICEMAIL....

Kindly leave your message.

If you want to call bluff - redial the 1-866 number above, go to Ext. 1000 and then input Judy's Extension "2100" (Judy Peedic - The Executive Assistant to David Crawford) - it will take you to her voicemail (or she will pick up) - so the Avia Messaging System is that of AHS...

Also, another Executive Assistant to David Crawford is a person by the name of "Matthew Boyd" his extension is 2103 at the same 1-866 number listed above (again, his extension also works in the Avia Messaging System @ AHS).

I hope American Home Shield makes right on alot of the breach of contract issues... :)

PASS THE INFO ON TO ANY SITE YOU SEE THAT CONTAINS AHS COMPLAINTS!!!
