AHS is a scam and will not fix anything!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Absolute worst scam I've ever been a part of. They will fix nothing and charge you for the service call. Every claim is denied or not covered! Contractors they use are idiots. Good luck getting a fair refund from these *** artists! I had to go to the BBB to try and get a refund. Unfriendly and unknowledgeable customer service. My realtor recommended them which was a joke. I'm not even sure the contractors they use are legitimate or trained in their field of repair. They aren't even listed online or in the phone book these techs.

MILITARY VETERAN VERY DISSATISFIED WITH TREATMENT FROM AHS

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On Sat. 16th,at approximately 08 am I called AMHS about my toilet leaking and needed someone to come ASAP. AMHS informed me they would not be able to service me until Tues. After days of emptying buckets and unable to sleep.

One provider, who schedule to come at 9 am showed up at 11 am. He came

in with few words, no greeting, looked at the toilet and said I don't know if the company will cover this. He prepared to leave and said that will be $75,

I said no, you didn't do anything. He left and returned in 10 min. said he

would put a shut off valve, but would do nothing more than that. I said that's

not sufficient. Like many others, I had to call a competent plumber on my

own and had to pay $750. They did a great job, knew how to communicate with the customer and I was very satisfied. Conclusion, AMH wants to take

your money every month and give you nothing in return. Not even a decent

discussion about the problem. Supervisors were not available for complaint

or to facilitate anything.

AC/Heater Service Request

3/31/16 my wife called in a service request because our heater as part of our HVAC is not coming on for three days now. A contractor was assigned and the name given and were to call back with a date and time of service and AHS told her there were cancellations and that the contractor would be out late in the day. There was a no show and the contractor did not call with an appointment date and/or time. 4/1/16 I called to address the problem and I got an automated service request. I couldn't speak with a "live" person without results.

Plumbing Leak

We had a leak in a capped pipe on an exterior wall. It was very easy to put in the service request online. The contracted company called promptly to set up an appointment. The leak ended up blowing out the cap and our appointment was moved up. That was when things went south. They denied our claim because the cap was no longer attached to the house. After 4 hours of phone calls to a myriad of rude uncaring people, it was determined that they would have covered the repair of the leak, but not the catastrophic blowout. Make any sense. Not really! Their attitude is to come up with anything to not have to pay. Everyone we spoke to was rude except for the retention lady who gave us a credit on our next service call. Very clever to try to keep us. This company has no integrity and their customer service is awful. Even with the credit, I'm not sure we want to try them again and risk the frustration of dealing with such an awful company. Only good thing was the plumbing company they sent was professional and did a wonderful job.

Quality Plumbing, Jacksonville and American Home Shield

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Just had a really bad experience with Quality Plumbing and American Home Shield, a horrific combination. I am canceling AHS as soon as I can so I can call a decent company when there is a problem. I had heard that the contractors they use are sub-par and now I believe it. Had a leaking pipe, plumber came and said it was not a leaking pipe and we had to go the expense of elimination the a/c unit and then a roof leak before the conclusion was reached that is was a leaking pipe. Plumber came a second time and refused to fix it because he said he could not access it. We called a real plumber who came the next day and fixed it without any problem. Now I am battling over not paying $100 service charge when the plumber caused us to go to additional expense unnecessarily by saying it was not a leaking pipe. The owner Brian, who probably sits in his office fielding complaints all day long, has refused to waive the charge so now I'm getting the runaround from AHS.

Pros:
  • Cancelling contract

Cons:
  • Subpar contractors
  • Supervisors no help
  • Wait time for service even with a leaking pipe

Preferred solution: Do not charge $100 for a service call for a plumber who misdiagnosed the problem. As a result, we had to spend hundreds of dollars to eliminate other possibilities of the cause only to find it was a leaking pipe as we suspected!

Had horrible messy non fix myself. Called a real plumber direct.

they came in 20 minuets and charged me the same as my deductible. Even offered to clean the home since the "quality" guy left raw sewage all over the kitchen.

American Home Shield - Ahs Air Conditioning Repair Review from Atlanta, Georgia

American Home Shield - Ahs Air Conditioning Repair Review from Atlanta, Georgia

On August 12, 2015, I called American Home Shield concerning an air condition issue. I had just come home from a surgical procedure and requested an upgrade due to my medical condition.

For the third time this summer the air conditioner was not working. On August 13 2015, a company called Bishop Engineering arrived at my home at 6:30 p.m., they diagnose the air conditioner problem as a bad compressor. On Friday August 14, I called both this Bishop Engineering and American Home Shield about whether the part had been ordered and when will they be coming out to install the compressor. The compressor was not ordered until Monday, August 17, 2015.

On August 17, 2015 at 3:10 p.m., I called American Home Shield and learned that the compressor had been ordered and was ready for pickup. The representative told me that Bishop Engineering has been sent an email confirming that the part was ready for pick up. Later that evening, I called the Bishop and requested to be placed on the schedule for the following day. The dispatcher, Carolyn, said she would not be able to put me on a schedule until the technician physically pick up the compressor from the warehouse.

I asked when might this be done?. The company did not pick up the compressor from the warehouse until Tuesday evening. They called and said that they would be able to come out and install the compressor on Wednesday, August 19 at 8 a.m., I requested that the technician bring a digital scale in order to determine how much freon was being put into my AC system. I assured by both Bishop Engineering and American Home Shield that the technician would comply.

At 8:30 a.m. August 19, 2015, 7 days from the date of the diagnosis Bishop Engineering still had not arrived at my home. I called the company and the technician on his cell phone number to get an update on what time they would be at my home. No one answered on neither telephone numbers.

At 9:10 a.m., a technician arrived and stated that he was there to install the compressor and that he had been asked to collect the money upfront for the freon and stated that 9lbs. would be used in the system. He requested $450 dollars which was the portion for which I was responsible. It was $60 a lb but American Home Shield would pay $10 per pound.

I stated to the technician that I have never been asked to pay up front before a job had been started. The technician stated if he was not paid up front that he was going to have to leave, so he left. The owner was called, and he stated that he would send the technician back to my home but that he requested that noone stands over him and watch him work. He returned and I asked the technician if he had a digital scale with him?

He said "no". I asked him how will I know if 9lbs was added?. He said becsuse he was honest. I told him I reqested that he bring one.

Due to it already being 7 days without air, I allowed him to do the install and paid them $450. This company did not prove to me as a customer that they utilize 9lbs of freon in my air conditioner yet I had to pay them for 9 lbs... $450 dollars in cash as they requested. I called and spoke with American Home Shield about this situation because I did not feel that it was fair for them to charge me for 9lbs and not have to prove it.

I thought this was dishonest and very unfair and I bought this to American Home Shield attention. American Home Shield allowed me to be treated this way by one of their contractors. They never intervened and did not require them to bring a scale.

This is how they treated a 9 year customer who had recently come out of the hospital from a surgical procedure. #wowgreedyworld #horriblecustomerservice

This is how AHS does business all of the time, except for some small thing. I could tell you of several incidents, even having to pay when work was done on the furnace that should have cost a few dollars and I had to pay a few hundred, up front.

In the interest of my health, I decided they were not worth it. If the company that came out was ARS they work deceptively well with AHS.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

What a HUGE WASTE OF MONEY! I've had this warranty company from 2005 to 2015 & all is good until you need to make a claim. Called them for a hot water tank leak in 2012 & was sent a plumber that tried to gauge me for an additional $380 onto of the $75 copay. They wanted to charge me $158 for a PERMIT which I verified with the city & was advised the permit was only $40. I asked the plumbing company why they were charging so much they said "Because we can!" Needless to say I did not use them for my repair & had to hire my own plumber. AHS could not provide a different plumber & supported the company they provided by stating that the permit & additional fees were not part of the coverage policy. I had to go round & round with American Home Shield to get reimbursed. Only after calling to cancel the account did I get assistance & was stupidly agreed to not cancel the policy. They ultimately paid me $240 which is what they said the job was worth... No wonder their plumber tried to gouge me for an additional $380!

A year later I again contacted them for a drain stoppage. They send out a different plumber who takes my $75 copay but then states they can't clear the stopped drain via the American Home Shield policy because AHS does not allow them to provide work that requires roof top access. They did clear the drain via roof top access at my own out of pocket expense - another $200 out of my pocket to a plumber & no reimbursement from American Home Shield.

Lastly in 2015, I get a leak in my kitchen. They send a plumber AND a leak detection specialist. The plumber states he won't do the repair unless I independently have someone rip out my built in kitchen cabinets. The cabinets can't be removed without breaking them apart and the leak detection specialist is unable to exactly pinpoint the leak because he said "American Home Shield" would not allow him to open the wall where the leak was believed to be. Interestingly enough, he could open the call by cutting hole in the back of the cabinet without "ripping out" the cabinet. So there I sat without hot water for several days waiting for resolution from AHS. Finally I contact them after 3 days & I'm advised that the claim is closed due to "customer unwilling to remove cabinet"! No second opinion, no response from the plumber, no hot water & NO REPAIR!

I had to find my own plumber who was able to repair the leak which turned out to be under slab beneath the cabinet floor. He made the repair without having to destroy my kitchen cabinets & counter top. It took him & his 2 helpers 4.5 hours to complete the repair & the repair cost exceeded the limits of the AHS policy. Now AHS continues to refuse to reimburse me for the policy limits of my out of pocket loss . So basically they take your money for years & years but when things break down & you need to make a claim they provide *** contractors & don't make good on coverage, plus you are out your co-pays. I've learned my lesson & have cancelled this account after paying them over $6000 over a 10 year period for NOTHING!

Washer repair what a joke

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This company is horrible. I had a service person come out twice to repair my washing machine and both times parts had to be ordered. time. The service guy said he would be back on Monday and never showed up so I then called only to be told the part they needed now was on order and wouldn't be in for 5 weeks. So in total I am out of a washing machine for 2 months. Asked if I could get replacement value. Only to be told no because the service hasn't stated it cannot be repaired. I would not recommend this company. They need to contract with reliable service companies.

After paying for monthly premiums for 6 years, my whirlpool washer went out and American Home Shield replaced it with a defective machine and won't give me a new machine. Actually wanted me to pay $79.

to have a repairmen come out to fix it.

First time I tried using it, the machine wouldn't wash on two of the cycles. I am cancelling and sorry I ever trusted them.

Exterior Pouring Water - No Problem!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Our water heater blew a leak, and we currently have water pouring down the exterior wall of our home, through an attic, and our light sockets under the attic heater. We called American Home Shield (for the second time in our contract with them- the first was also a *** They told us there is nothing that can be donde tonight. They upgraded our issue to "expedited" which means someone will contact us in the morning to fix our issue. Their advice in the meantime was "try to make the water stop." We asked for the number of the company who is supposed to come out tomorrow so we could contact them. They informed us they DO provide emergency services, but through AHS, they are not allowed to provide them to us. So from every direction, we've been told we have to sit while our water heater pours water down the outside wall of our wood-sided home, through light sockets, and floods the closet underneath it. We have had nothing but terrible experiences for the year we have been stuck with AHS and I wouldn't recommend them to ANYONE.
