How much did you have to pay total out of pocket ? How much is the monthly fee for the insurance ? Why is this a worthwhile investment ?

American Home Shield - Useless Company, avoid at all costs!

My grandparents {80 years old} have contacted American Home shield about their broken refrigerator/ freezer for over a month and after many pointless trips out all different service people, all confirming they can't fix it, they are still without a refrigerator. American Home Shield has caused more a headache then my grandpa's cancer. This isn't right. It is a horrible company. This insurance ensures that they will be able to fix or replace appliances and after paying and being a loyal customer for many pears they refuse to do their part. It is a shame that they do this to so many and it makes sense why are they are having so many problems.

My 16 year old side-by-side refrigerator freezer began malfunctioning in late April. A service call was placed to AHS. The 1st technician came out on May 3, 2014; couldn't diagnose what was wrong; no parts ordered; unit worked for approx. 2 weeks before dying again. ...

Company refuses to honor Contract agreements. Customers are left paying for repairs out of pocket. The Ac unit to my home is not up to housing code or even hurricane codes for Florida. The system constantly breaks down due out dated parts that constantly break...

I am currently having the same issue AC related. They used codes not covered as a reason to not cover everything that has a code.

When I got this contract they did not make me aware of the fact that they can choose to not cover anything that is code related and they have the choice to cover or not cover the issue. Therefore since my AC coil has to be replaced which means they also have to change the AC coil and pan I am out of pocket $2100. AHS is only paying for the cost of the coil and labor. They will not pay for the pan due to the code.

I Think that AHS should cover repairs.

I pay $83 a month and seldom use the services. I believe this is ridiculous.

American Home Shield in Laredo, Texas - Will not cover any repairs

I waited 8 months and had to call many many times for them to send an unlicensed contractor who said someone had messed with it, so they didn't cover it! No one had touched the freezer and the contractor did not tell me this but after talking to AHS all of the sudden it was not. Overhead because of this lie! He never called me back just proving he knew it was not true and he didn't have the guts to even talk to me! I think it's a total scam, I cancelled on the spot!!! This was not the first time. I waited 6 months in 100 degree weather for them to fix AC and when I had a leak they sent plumbers that were terrible all they did was tear up my home and yard!!! The companies they use are not reputable and then they find any loop hole not to pay!!! Insurance scam at its finest!

American Home Shield in Boise, Idaho - 16 Years a Customer and Told They Won't Replace Air Conditioner???

This company is horrible! I joined them in 1998 and have paid them each month since-sometimes on 2 homes. I've never needed a system replacement until this summer. They sent a guy out who said the system is old, leaking and needs to be replaced. AHS said, "No, we are getting a second opinion". I called the 2nd opinion guy and he rudely told me he couldn't get to us for a week and would call me back that night to make an appointment. Its been 2 weeks and I haven't heard from him. I am cancelling my contract with AHS and will never recommend them to anyone again!

I have an AHS policy and needed a water heater repaired. The plumber they sent out was terrible, left my home and failed to close a valve.

Everything in my garage was ruined, including $800 worth of flooring, a copy machine, wall hangings, as well as important papers -- all totaling about $2,000 -- not including labor to remove the flooring. When reporting this to American Home Shield I was told their contractors are bonded and insured, and I'd have to deal with the contractor myself.

Again needing a plumber I checked into the BBB records of their only other plumbing contractor in my area (I live in a large metro area) and they have many complaints in just a one-year time period. AHS tells me, "We're sorry, but we don't rely on that web site." So I'm paying a premium for unacceptable contractors to come to my home, and I, the customer of AHS, am told "Too bad, there's nothing more we can do." That's no way to do business

American Home Shield in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania - Air conditioner has been out for over 2 weeks

The first service guy never called or came. AHS argued with me that they would eventually come! After 2 days, they called someone else who came 4 days later. They said they ordered parts on 7/3 - but did not! They ordered them on 7/8 and they may come tomorrow to put the first fix on the unit. That will be 16 days after we called AHS. It is a horrible service company - last winter, the igniter on the furnace went out - single digits outside - no heat for 3 days! I am a realtor and am telling everyone I can to stay away from their service contract - it is almost worthless!

American Home Shield in Panama City, Florida - EVERY SUMMER and WINTER

We've had AHS since 2010 the house ac unit we were told was going to need replacing soon and that's why we got the warranty. This just isn't you basic one either it's top of the line cost me almost $800 a year. EVERY SUMMER my AC unit goes down at least 3 times and once in the winter. The system is extremely old out dated yet AHS REFUSE TO REPLACE THE UNIT, they constantly just do band-aid touch up that works for maybe 2 months and cost me $75 each time. In the last 3 years we've had this warranty we've paid out of pocket enough money just on the AC to replace the system twice over. This is a horrid company other companies are far better. Again I'm stuck without AC this summer until they can figure out what to do and I have young kids suffering in the heat.

American Home Shield - waited 12 days without AC & not fixed

American home shield and probably any Home warranty company is a bad investment. There business model is to take your money first and avoid as much work as possible so they can keep your money. So what does this mean. During the month of July I was without air conditioning while we waited for the first person to come out (7 days later), look at the unit , say they did not know how to work on it and walked out. The second person looked at the unit told us the coils were dirty, reset the breaker, said it will probably happen again so just keep reseting the breaker- wouldn't make sense to spend a clean the coils? Even if the cleaning is not on our warranty (which no maintenance is) could they charge us a small fee? When people do not get paid until your are satisfied the service is focused on the customer not the warranty company.

Signed up for AHS after getting spammed and bombarded with mailers for nearly 2 years. Thought it might be a good idea to get coverage as my appliances and ac were nearing the 10 year mark. After signing and receiving coverage coincidentally my ac started acting up. (...

I have asthma and mitral valve prolapse with an active and recurring history of heat stroke due to inability to sweat. We have tried to get service expedited, but the problem is they do not understand the severity of the circumstances of the medical issues or do not know how to communicate it clearly with the service contractors.

We are now literally needing service for the second time in four months time and still awaiting an actual service time and day. Here's the clencher though: Due to being a person with medically documented conditions, failure to expedite may end up ultimately lead to a lawsuit.
