American Home Shield in Garland, Texas - AHS - Plumbing Stoppage...rip off

I cannot agree more with some of the reviews I saw. Never did realize that I am not the first to have issue with AHS when it comes to real problems that needs the policy to kicks in. All they are doing is making their customer pay the co-pay to their vendors for diagnostic and then quoting overprice service to fix the root cause. Meanwhile, expecting AHS customer to continue paying the co-pay each time they send the same guy over the same issue....I don't see how AHS takes responsibility on the case to really resolve their customer issue. Unbelievable....I wow to never buy another AHS policy ever....My recommendation to those who are considering this to skip AHS. It is cheaper to get your own contractor or DIY which can be much more economical and faster....Very bad experience....VERY UPSET

American Home Shield in Montgomery, Alabama - PLUMBING REPAIR COMPLAINT

Since July 20,2014 I have been trying to get my plumbing repaired. AHS has requested a second opinion but keep sending the work order to the company who gave the first opinion. In the mean time, every week for 4 weeks we have had to have our drains cleared at our expense because we cannot get AHS to hold up their end of the contract. I am on the phone with customer service reps every other day or two, based on the time response given to me. I have asked to speak to a supervisor and still no response from that person. Is there any recourse for me?

Top Vendor Service Company is Forced Out by American Home Shield

We have been a service company for AHS for about 25 years. Before the recession in 2008 we had an "allotment" with AHS of $92.per job. In other words, we were expected to complete each job including labor and materials, gas and incidentals under $92 per job. When the recession hit, AHS said they were dropping our allotment to $80 per job... take it or leave it. We struggled for years to keep under this price ceiling and finally last year they raised to $85 per job. It was increasingly clear with the price of gasoline and the doubling of parts and prices overall, that we were being slowly squeezed out of business. Finally this last spring and summer, we were spending thousands of dollars purchasing ceiling fans and other parts for AHS customers. We never marked these prices up , just invoiced them for exactly what we paid for the parts for AHS customers. Then AHS recently sent us a demand that we stop billing them for these parts and that we must either return money to them or work for the next 12 to 20 jobs for free, essentlally billing out a $0 invoice even though we were spending often $200 or $300 per job in some cases just in parts. What had happened was that we were caught in a price vise, where rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of parts forced us to go deeper and deeper into debt. AHS would not allow us to recoup the cost of parts that we had purchased for their customers, even though we billed them only for the net cost of the parts with no mark up at all. We told them, sorry, we cannot afford to work for free at which point they cancelled our preferred contractor agreement with them and told us they would no longer be sending us any new work orders. How can a company like this afford to keep top vendors and service personnel working for them, when they treat you like this? We never overcharged them and only asked them to reimburse them for the parts, at net pricing, that we had purchased for their customers. Service companies beware.

American Home Shield in Fayetteville, North Carolina - Terrible services

I have had home shield for nearly ten years. In the last couple of years I have called them three times for rentals I own. Every time I call there is always a reason they can not perform the service. We don't cover that, this is not part of our plan, Items not serviced by us before. This has been my worst experience, all this money with no service whatsoever. I will drop them and I'm not happy right now. This has been a total let down to me, especially when I have recommended them to many of my friends who made similar dissatisfied complaints.

American Home Shield in Atlanta, Georgia - AC Repair

Leak discovered in closet AHS sent a plumber $75. Plumber said it the AC. AHS assigned United did not show up on a Friday. No return call from their hotline. Called AHS on Sat it was 93 degrees in a home with my elderly Mom. After a looooong wait to get a rep on the line at AHS I had to beg them to send someone out. Sent Air Design $75 they said it was the coil they had to order the part and that took several days! Here are the fees not covered by AHS: dispose EPA, reclaim refrigerant, plenum modification, drain modification, float switch and a recharge of the $75 service fee already paid. Total: $545 I Looked all of this up to see if these are valid here is one example of what I found. "Pleunum modification plausible to properly modify and install a new coil, these costs should be part of changing out the coil". DO NOT sign up with AHS!! Their contract covers them and that is the business they are in. It will cost you more time, money and utter frustration for terrible costly service! Read the fine print that is where they get you. If you want expedient and honest service AHS is not for you. I hope this helps someone out there make an informed decision!

Why I won't buy American Home Shield again

Why I won't buy Am Home Shield again. Close escrow on my new (old house) May 30, 2014......having had a home inspection telling me everything was AOK I bought my policy May 31 2014....Had to wait until 6/21 for it to take effect 1. Water heater dropped its bottom....AHS say we don't cover Hot water heaters older than 5 years. It was 6 years old 2.Air Conditioning was not cooling enough. Contractor for AHS says the AC was replaced in 2009, but the plenum used was to small. The house was under AHS in 2009, so it was a 2009 AHS contractor that did the work I complained, AHS sends a "complimentary" second opinion contractor. He said yes, the plenum was too small, but that there was some ducts in the attic that were collapsing on themselves that is why the air flow is weak and not cooling properly. New ducts were needed, not covered by AHS. and by the way, while we are doing this work the heater that is a part of the AC system is leaking carbon monoxide. Better fix that too. None of the above was covered by AHS, $9500.00 quote. Thanks AHS, why do I have your insurance. 3. The refrigerator started having an odor and was not cooling well enough. No signs of any food hidden. Water tube for ice maker and water dispenser is orange and the water tastes terrible. Guess what? Not covered by AHS. Just exactly What do you cover for $600.00 per year? A VERY dissatisfied customer. David McMullen Shenandoah, TX 77381
