American Home Shield - Home Warranty Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My home was built in 1954 . Recently I had an electrical outage in my bedroom outlets and two outlets in another room. The main cause of the problem was the age of wear and tear of the wires. We have not overloaded the outlets because we are using the same electrical devices as always. To keep from repairing and honoring the warranty contract AHS has a clause that protect itself by using the term overload. Yes it just common sense that if the wiring is aging and for years we have use the same electronic devices nothing added it wasn't overloaded but had lived it lifespan. The contract says replace wiring ....One service man says he didn't want to do it because he would have to connect to the existing older wiring. If there is anyone who have had this similar issues please contact me. I am considering a class action or independent law suit. This is not fair and honorable of the company.

Disposer half way replaced

Updated by user Mar 02, 2017

I have contacted AHS numerous times regarding the disposer that was half replaced. Nothing not even a phone call has to date been received.

Original review Mar 01, 2017
I recently had my disposer half way replaced. The technician was horrible. I called AHS several times to no avail. I was never able to get the company that replaced by disposer. They will not answer the phone nor will they return messages. I was told by AHS they would have another company come and finish the repair however that never happened. When my service expires in November I will not ever use this company again. I previously had them on my previous home and all was good. However things have really changed. This was the worst experience I have ever had with AHS. No one has ever contacted me regarding this and even though I asked for a supervisor they told me a supervisor would return my call. That never happened. Elizabeth Roper

If you love being on hold for hours at a time, this is for you!

In life, I have never seen a more incompetent company. Their contractors are the worst.

They actually cut wires and used duct tape to fix my HVAC (they never fixed it properly. I had to call my regular guy, then submit an invoice that I went out of plan to AHS. I had to call the president's office of the company to get this resolved). The customer service people are very kind and sympathetic, but rarely do they actually record anything about the conversations.

I have been on hold for up to 2 hours at times. You can not communicate AT ALL via the website...no live chat. No emails. You have to speak with a LIVE person to get anything done.

And, guess what? They rarely pick up (unless the person is in billing or sales).

Imagine that! Stay away from AHS.

AHS is a rip off company ..they always give me the run around and never cover for the services they supposed to cover .. my contract stated they supposed to unclogge mainpip up to 100 feet away from my septic .. I had a water leak in my basement .. they sent me a Plummer that could not use snake to unclogge a mainpip . He referred me to a septic company (wind river )who was able to do it in less than five min.. now AHS refuses to cover for the charges $ 338 ... I was on hold for more than an hour to speak to an agent who could not assist me and asked me to speak to a manager .. worse service ever .. very very disappointed with AHS....this is my third experience with them and I always get a poor service ..

Save your money!

Listen to the other posts. Say something big goes out, like a water heater. If that water heater needs a new expansion tank, due to code (can't replace the tank without doing the expansion tank), then you get to pay extra for the expansion tank. And, if it upstairs, that is extra. And, if you want the old water heater haled away, that is extra. If you have a blown coil in your air conditioner, and code says you have to replace the outside condenser too, then, you get to pay for the outside condenser. Guess which is more? It is a scam. Save your money monthly. Put in the bank. Pay for repairs yourself. You will be way ahead in the end.

American Home Shield Worst Coverage Big Waste of Money

We purchased a Home Warranty plan for our new home. When we got into the home the dishwasher was broken and a sink in the masterbath sink was cracked and leaked. In both instances we contacted American Home Shield and had to pay the additional service fee ($75 each time) on top of what we already paid for coverage before someone came out to look at the dishwasher and sink. Neither problem was ever fixed. For the money that we spent on the plan we could have at least replaced the dishwasher. This was the worst money spent and I would not advise anyone to purchase a plan from them.

Lousy service over and over

Had problems with a sewer line of a toilet. I have already determined that the toilet was not the problem. I t was only 4 days old. They were alerted that the problem was with the sewer line. The plumbing service sent by AHS came to the house and I re- appraised them of the situation. Without making any attempts to diagnose the problem they indicated that I would have to pay $330.00 to remove the toilet to try to clear the line which already had been tried by another plumbing company and to diagnose the problem. That meant that I had to pay that amount plus the deductible of $75.00 just to diagnose the problem with no guarantees of any kind. Outrageous. Tried to call to cancel the account with AHS to no avail. after waiting over 20 minutes the customer rep. could not handle the cancellation process. Previous experiences have resulted in dismal outcomes. Lousy company that provides lousy service. They should be out of business.

American home Shield Poor customer service

I have an American home Shield warranty on my home. My furnace went out, so American home Shield sent out a contractor who said it needed to be replaced. The contractor that American home Shield sent over said that I would have to pay close to $2,000.00 in additional parts that were not covered for it to be replaced. I told American home Shield that sounded a little excessive so could I find my own contractor to replace my furnace and they said sure but they would only send me $675 total for a new furnace. This feels like a case of bad faith and bait and switch to me where American home Shield says they will only give me $675 to replace my furnace or use their contractor and pay $2000 in parts.

AHS- Disatisfied Customer

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had being paying my hard working money to be serviced by AHS for a year, and as soon as I made my first claim, the whole process was a nightmare. I'm big on customer service as I come from such field, so when i'm making payments on time, I expect the same service in return! I opened a claim to get my refrigerator and dishwasher serviced and the claim was never full-filled. Such appliances needed repair around Christmas time in a household of 8 you can just imagined the frustration and chaos to not have a fridge and dishwasher at that time. I would have to constantly contact AHS to have someone come out, with hold times of more than 30 mins each time I called. Once I finally got assigned a vendor to complete the work, I was told they came and left a note on my door. Mind you in a household of 8 there is someone always at home. Needless to say it was all a lie, no-one came out, there was no note and when I requested to get someone else out, I was told that I couldn't be assigned anyone else. I went back and forth with them for weeks just to simply get my service and nothing happened. I ended up having to hire my own vendor to get my appliances serviced. I was so upset. There should've have not been a reason for me to go thru that ordeal if I had been paying them to take care of it. I once again contacted them to request my monies back and I was told to submit any receipts to get any refund. Till this day, AHS has NOT refunded my monies and never heard from them again. As a consumer this is the most frustrating to see multi-million dollar companies take advantage of hard working individuals like myself and I'm pretty sure of many more. At this point not only do I want the money I spent to get it fixed but now I want total refund of the entire year I had been paying them as AHS did not satisfy their part of the agreement!

Disgusted with American Home Shield service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I've had AHS for about 5 years. Washer failed on 3/29/2017. I put in work order via internet. AHS sent a service notice on 3/30/2017 @7:48pm via internet. I called because no one contacted me at 11:05am 3/31/2017. Customer service contacted the service company which is 40 miles away and then told me it would be April 5th before I would get anyone here to look at the washer. This is the 3rd time in 5 years I had to call on them. Each time I had a problem I was without for almost a week. Save your money up and when the time arises use that to fix your problem. A local company would have showed up the next day to repair or replace. This is not acceptable. The 75 bucks for the co-payment is a joke. Don't get ripped off. Fool me once, fool me twice. The third time is my fault.

Big Headache

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have been waiting for an exhaust fan switch for my range hood since December 7, 2016. I have been shuffled back and fourth from AHS to Fidelity Appliance, and back. Fidelity Appliance lied to me and told me the part was on order and would be here by week end, then that week called again and was told the same story, then after 1 month and 1 week, I was told the part was on a 6 week back order. then finally last week 3-9 I got a call the part was in the repair man would be here between 1 and 4 pm. Well when they finally arrived there was no part, he came in did the same inspection, and then left. When I called about the issue to AHS, they told me I refused the work as per the repair man, I said no, he was lying, he did not have the part. Now it is 3-15 called AHS and they told me I could purchase a new range hood, send them the receipt to be reimbursed. Well to me that is not replacing the item, that is putting me in a financial budget bind, since I don't have the money or the time to run around looking at range hoods. What a joke this company has been. I've been with them 5 yrs. and used them probably 6 times before, but I guess now they are too big for their own britches and trying to screw the customer. Lousey service from a company who claims to be so good!

"Accidentally Disconnected"

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Grrrr! Three times I've been disconnected while on hold. They have my phone number but don't call back--just accepting the I'll go away. My phone doesn't disconnect accidentally, so it's clearly coming from their end. They just hang up when they don't want to file my claim or when they don't want to connect me to a supervisor. My request to speak to supervisor is related to AHS's refusal to replace my kitchen faucet with similar quality faucet. They will only replace it with a standard grade chrome one. I currently have brushed nickel, and I think I should get that when the replacement is installed.

First and worst experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I bought a house 2 months ago, my real state agent recommended me American Home Shield. I set and service request 3 weeks ago, the contractor showed up this week to check all plumbing issues we have (garbage disposal, bathroom pipe are leaking and the toilet tank is loose) The contractor said that they had to talk to the warranty people to see if these things were covered, I waited 2 days for they to tell me that the warranty does not cover any of these issues.

I don't really understand why the warranty doesn't cove any of these when the contract clearly states all the parts and pieces the cover including components for these.

I'm really disappointed and upset with the service that the contractor provided, they didn't follow instructions since the moment they contacted me and with the warranty company because they basically say no to every issue, $600 dlls I paid went to the trash, sure I will go to another company and say good bye to American Home Shield. Trash service....

AMERICAN HOME SHIELD - THE WORST in CUSTOMER SERVICE

Water heater went out, I have all girls, they need their H2O....and hot! Called AHS, and they sent out a plumber, thought he would fix it, nope, he says "yep, you need a new H2O heater, that will be $75.00 please." AHS says they will send me their "approved Water Heater model" in 12-14 days?

WTF?! 12-14 days, are you high!? I went to Home Depot, bought an upgraded Water heater, put it in, paid a plumber to do the "code changes" on it and called AHS to let them know. Two weeks later, I got a check, for what they would have paid for their water heater and would have waited 12-14 days.

Their Customer Service is AWFUL! You are on hold for ENDLESS hours and then trying to CANCEL their service is another NIGHTMARE all together.
